The Bench

Have you ever looked at empty benches and wondered what all they know, what all they've witnessed, what all they've done, provided,  lived through? Here's a story about the bench....

  The Bench

Lovers holding hands;
lost in starlit eyes
Explorers planning trips;
flying  distant skies.

Talking suits immersed;
politics all around
Echoes of once was;
shadows on the ground

Worried contemplation;
questioning ill health
Youthful anticipation
spending future wealth

Bended knees propose;
Love's the driving force
Angry hearts divide;
planning for divorce

Fragile mournful souls;
reminiscing the past
Expectant parents smile;
making memories last

Bench turned into bed;
dreaming better days
Strangers having lunch;
soaking up some rays

A soldier sitting tall;
serving  country proud
Gangs that disrespect;
music turned up loud

Whimsical graffiti;
artistically fun
Diversity now unified;
friendships now begun

A mother and her child;
such poetry in Light
Students sharing knowledge;
   future's looking bright

You express and write beautifully. Even an empty bench can hold so many stories..

Nina, I have always loved empty benches. So invitational, sacred space awaiting. I even have a photo of one framed hanging in my bedroom. It brings much ease...
Lovely poem too!

Oh...I never gave much thought to the benches I pass... The stories they could tell. Beautiful Nina!

Beautiful Nina... I love benches. My husband put together a bench and sitting area for me so that I could sit in the front yard and enjoy the roses.

Wonder if benches could talk to us... Bet we'd learn alot from the people who sit on them...

Great poem.
Hugs,
Betsy
P.S. I am still in awe of that poem you wrote for me about my brother.

Absolutely wonderful and a product of true inspiration. Your vision is beautiful.

We should all know that we create the world we live in. We can change our thoughts, invite different attitudes, aspire to new feelings. Some of us are stuck in the webs that we ourselves have woven. The infinite stories that surround us are wonderful. Just know that we can change them if it is time to move on.

Great stuff. When I saw this the first thing I thought of was the bench as bed idea:

"Bench turned into bed;
dreaming better days"

Often you see a plaque on a bench dedicated to someone who must have sat there often and enjoyed the view.

All this and more... Great post.

your bench post provided a space to sit, briefly, a resting space, a pause

to breathe insight inward
and enjoy the view

thank you

Do you believe us? Your poetry is beauty. Your profile says you share this because your family told you to. It sounds to me as if you don't have confidence in your abiity to weave magical words. Belive me (an objective stranger) your expressions touch us all.

You have inspired me Nina to find a "special" bench that I can visit often and sit and reminise about days gone by and my journey ahead.

Beautiful poem Nina it covers the whole spectrum of the life of a bench.

Big hugs
Peggy

Your wonderful poetry so perfectly tells the story of a public bench.

The poem is nice as are the line of benches. It makes one wonder where all the people are? And if one person came back where would they choose to set down?
